If you think fun-filled family hotels are hard to come by, stop right there. The Holiday World Polynesia – which has been designed to make you feel like you’ve rocked up on an island in the South Pacific – comes with heaps of facilities for kids and grown-ups alike. We’re talking a great pool scene, a cinema, a waterpark, and more. The entertainment programme also ticks off more activities than you can shake an ice lolly at, including archery and mini golf.

The pool scene is where it’s at during the day. It’s a huge lagoon-style number fringed by palm trees and a team of loungers and parasols. There’s also a poolside bar to keep the snacks and drinks coming between swimming sessions. And a stay here wouldn’t be complete without a couple of trips to the Holiday World Resort’s waterpark, which is just a quick shuttle bus ride away. Here, you can float along the rapids, whizz down the waterslides, swim in the wave pool, or make castles in the giant sandpits. There’s also a pool for little ones to splash in, which comes complete with a pirate ship.

The daytime activity agenda, meanwhile, covers off everything from aerobics and archery to tennis and football, while little ones are entertained at the kids’ club. There’s also a games room with arcade machines, a bowling alley, a mini golf course, and a cinema that shows three movies a day. And if you fancy some added relaxation, you can treat yourself to some pampering at the hotel’s spa – it’s kitted out with a hydro-massage beds, a steam room, a sauna, and a whirlpool bath. Massages and beauty treatments are up for grabs, too. Alternatively, head to the gym or try out the spa’s calorie-burning counter-current pool.

When it comes to mealtimes, the international buffet restaurant is the place to be. It’s set up with show-cooking stations, and there’s often a chocolate fountain for sweet-toothed dessert lovers. If you’re at the beach club during the day, you can also tuck into lunch at the restaurant there. Back at the hotel, you’ve got another two themed restaurants to choose from – Ahima is a Polynesian eatery, while Uru Wok serves up Oriental
