Ibe and Colleen Sesay:
We’ve just returned from an amazing three‑day break in Cambrils, Spain. We flew direct from Belfast International to Reus with Jet2, a quick journey of just 2 hours and 45 minutes. And a taxi from the airport to Cambrils was only about 10-15 mins – very handy! Cambrils is the neighbour of the more common known Salou – but is a more authentic Spanish holiday experience compared to what occurs in the Salou area.
Our base was Marina Cambrils by URH, only a three‑minute walk from the beachfront and marina—a lively area filled with shops, cafés, bars, and restaurants.
The hotel was modern, the room spacious, and it had everything we needed, including toiletries, a hairdryer, and fresh towels each morning.
Breakfast was served on the rooftop, offering both hot and cold options and a beautiful start to the day. The infinity pool overlooking the marina was absolutely fantastic!
Things To Do / Highlights:
Parc Samà
A stunning botanical garden filled with greenery, ponds, and peaceful walking paths. It’s about a 15‑minute taxi ride from Cambrils and perfect for a relaxing (and romantic!) wander, with the sound of waterfalls in the background. Declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest, there’s also a small museum and a café on site. Entry is only 12Euro (adults) and discounted for children and seniors, and it’s absolutely worth visiting.

Cat Aventure Boat Trip
We joined a three‑hour cruise with Cat Aventure, which became one of the standout moments of our trip. We relaxed on loungers, enjoyed the music, and soaked up the atmosphere enjoying the spectacular views of the Costa Daurada from sea. After about an hour, the boat anchored so everyone could swim / snorkel in the crystal clear waters, or simply enjoy the views.

Ferrer Bobet Winery – Priorat Region
We visited Ferrer Bobet in the renowned Priorat wine region, travelling through beautiful mountain scenery to reach it. The winery is a modern building built into the hillside, and the tour walks you through the entire process of how they create their wines—from growing the grapes to bottling. At the end, we sampled a selection of their wines along with local appetisers.

Siurana
While in the area, we stopped at the ancient village of Siurana, perched dramatically on a cliff with breathtaking panoramic views. There’s a small, beautiful church and a local café, and although you need to walk about 10 minutes downhill (and back up again), the stunning jaw-dropping scenery makes it completely worthwhile – MUST VISIT!!

Tarragona (Tarraco)
Around 20 minutes along the coast is Tarragona, once the capital of Hispania Citerior during Roman times and now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city is fascinating because Roman ruins are woven directly into the modern streets. With a guide, we explored the history of the city, visited the Amphitheatre and Roman Circus, and climbed to the top of the highest tower for incredible views over the “Balcony of the Mediterranean.”

Reus – Gaudí Centre & Casa Navàs
In Reus, we visited the Gaudí Centre, a three‑storey museum showcasing the life, work, and creative process of Antoni Gaudí through interactive displays focusing on how he observed nature to create his revolutionary designs.

We also toured Casa Navàs, one of Europe’s best‑preserved Modernist buildings. Built between 1901 and 1908, it still retains its original stained glass, colours, and decorative details. Amazingly, it remained a private home until 1999.

Food & Dining in Cambrils – Cambrils is known as a “Gastronomic Capital”, with incredible local produce from both land and sea. Here are a few places we enjoyed:
Bar del Pòsit
Traditional dishes made with fresh locally sourced ingredients. We had tapas followed by a rice dish with seafood. It’s located right across from our hotel.

Acuamar Restaurant
A family‑run restaurant since 1977, specialising in fresh seafood, fish, and rice dishes. Again, only a short walk from where we stayed.

LLop de Mar Restaurant
Located right on the bustling waterfront promenade, it seamlessly transitions from a sunny beachside spot during the day to a lively cocktail lounge at night.
The kitchen focuses heavily on fresh local seafood and traditional Catalan coastal dishes. While you can order a variety of tapas to share, the star of lunchtime is their heavy-hitting seafood mains
Museu del Vermut
We stopped here for lunch, shared some tapas, and enjoyed learning about the long history of vermouth in the region.
